The 'Hoopster Of The Week'
for this week
goes to:
the first Big Black Man (6-5, 200 lbs)
to Play in an NBA game October 31,
1950, with the Washington Capitols,
and was drafted in
1950, while also winning an NBA
Championship ring in 1955,
with the Syracuse Nationals,
and was one
of the first Black head
coaches in the league with the
Detroit Pistons, and helped his college
team in 1948, West Virginia State, to go
undefeated, plus he was known as
'The Big Cat,'
and so much more...
Black Basketball History Month was
founded by Ralph Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to acknowledge, praise,
and hold high, with cheer, the untold
numbers of International Black Men
and Women, both past and present,
that made us go, "Wow!...Whoa!...
...and...OMGosh!" in their nonstop,
valiant, and always surprising,
individual and team
efforts to put the ball through the
hoop the most, to win games and
championships!
