The 'Hoopster Of The Week'
for this week
goes to:
the Big Black Lady, 6-3, 185, who led her
college, Delta State University to three straight
AIAW National Championships and was the
MVP for those three years, and she still is the
school's all-time leader in points and rebounds,
while also winning a Gold Medal in Women's
basketball at the 1975 Pan American Games,
and later she became the first woman to score
a basket in the Women's Montreal Olympic
Basketball' first game in 1976, then in 1977
she became the first woman and Black
Woman officially drafted in the NBA by the
New Orleans Jazz, but didn't play because
she thought it was just for marketing, and
she wanted to start her nuclear family
instead, also being pregnant at the time,
plus, she is the first Black Woman to be
inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame,
and so much more...
Black Basketball History Month was
founded by Ralph Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to acknowledge, praise,
and hold high, with cheer, the untold
numbers of International Black Men
and Women, both past and present,
that made us go, "Wow!...Whoa!...
...and...OMGosh!" in their nonstop,
valiant, and always surprising,
individual and team
efforts to put the ball through the
hoop the most, to win games and
championships!
