The 'Hoopster Of The Week'
for this week
goes to:
the Big Black Man, 6-10, 240 pound center,
who was the first Big Black to be voted a
NBA Finals MVP, not once, but twice, in
1970 and 1973, and in those two years he
won the finals with the Knicks, and he is only
one of two players who were drafted in the
second round to win a finals Championship
and MVP, plus he was a 7x All-Star Gamer,
and was the MVP of one of those games
(1970), and he started things out as the
NBA Rookie of the Year in 1965, and he
has a slew of other performance records,
while serving seasons as an assistant coach
and head coach in the NBA, plus he played
football and set the state record in the discus
in high school, plus as a senior there, he
scored 58 points and won the state
championship playing barefoot
because his shoes were stolen, and as a
college freshman his team won the NAIA
tournament, and he was selected
to the all-tournament team,
and of course, the NBA had to enshrine
the Grambling U. graduate into the HOF,
and so much more...
Black Basketball History Month,
celebrated in October each year, was
founded by Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to acknowledge, praise,
and hold high, with cheer, the untold
numbers of International Black Men
and Women, both past and present,
that made us go, "Wow!...Whoa!...
...and...OMGosh!" in their nonstop,
valiant, and always surprising,
individual and team
efforts to put the ball through the
hoop the most, to win games and
championships!
